One of Dr Thérèse Coffey’s first interviews as Deputy Prime Minister was interrupted by her ringtone – Dr. Dre’s epic hit ‘Still D.R.E.’

The politician reached the second highest office in the country overnight, promoted as part of Liz Truss’ ongoing re-shuffle. Newly anointed as Deputy Prime Minister, Dr Thérèse Coffey was sent out to do the media rounds on behalf of the cabinet.

Invited on to LBC, the politician’s interview was interrupted by a curious ringtone – her 8am alarm is actually ‘Still D.R.E.’ by Dr. Dre.

The embarrassed Dr Coffey hurriedly switched it off, but the clip has already become social media gold.

The Tories have some curious musical habits. Former Chancellor George Osbourne is a fan of gangsta rap pioneers N.W.A. and even saw their seminal Brixton Academy show. In turn, Ice Cube jokingly referred to Osbourne as his “homie” in a subsequent interview.

Perhaps the most notably clash of cultures came when David Cameron insisted he was a huge fan of The Smiths. Referencing the band’s song ‘This Charming Man’ as a pick on Desert Island Discs, the move enraged guitarist Johnny Marr.

Using social media, Johnny Marr memorably tweeted: “Stop saying that you like The Smiths, no you don’t… I forbid you to like it.”
