The Weeknd Teases End Of An Era As He Changes Twitter Name

Abel Tesfaye is taking over The Weeknd on twitter.

After over a decade of music as his stage name The Weeknd, the Canadian star teases the end of the name to bring a new chapter to his career. Just recently, the “After Hours” hitmaker stated that he will be retiring The Weeknd’s name after his next album, and now he changed his Twitter and Instagram username to his real name Abel Tesfaye.

“@theweeknd for 12 years has watered us, nourished copiously with perfect and timeless productions,” a fan wrote with the screenshot of the singer profile, which was also retweeted by The Weeknd. “The sum of the masterpieces is incalculable. Whatever the reason for his ‘disappearance’ for Abel Tesfaye, I respect it, support him but above all, hope that it’s a desired choice.”

The singer who’s prepping the release of his new HBO series “The IDOL” with a soundtrack album, recently revealed that his next album will be last hurrah as The Weeknd. “It’s getting to a place and a time where I’m getting ready to close the Weeknd chapter,” he told W magazine. “I’ll still make music, maybe as Abel, maybe as The Weeknd. But I still want to kill The Weeknd,” he said. And I will. Eventually. I’m definitely trying to shed that skin and be reborn.”

“The visuals are vital to my career,” Tesfaye added. “The album I’m working on now is probably my last hurrah as The Weeknd. This is something that I have to do. As The Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say.”

In related news, filming for a movie featuring The Weeknd and Jenna Ortega is officially complete.
