Nas Says He Sometimes Jokes With Jay-Z Through Texts About Their Past Beef

Nas raps about his past beef with Jay-Z.

Last night, Nas made his return with the third instalment of his Hit-Boy collab album series “King’s Disease” and in the third consecutive year. This time, the rapper came solo as the 17-track effort featured no guest appearances.

On track number third “Thun”, Nasir raps about his past beef with Jay-Z, and revealed that he sometimes joked about it with the rapper through texts. “No beef or rivals, they playing ‘Ether’ on TIDAL / Brothers can do anything when they decide to / In a Range Rover, dissecting bars from ‘Takeover’ / Sometimes I text Hova like, ‘Ni**a, this ain’t over,’ laughing,” he raps.

The two emcees indulge in a feud in the early 2000s, throwing shots at each other in multiple songs, which also includes two of the best diss tracks “Ether” and “Takeover”. They squashed the feud in 2005 at Jay-Z’s “I Declare War” tour concert in New Jersey, and since then collaborated on many tracks, most recently DMX’s “Bath Salts” and DJ Khaled’s “Sorry Not Sorry“.

The later song brings out Nas’ competitive side, as he admitted during a FaceTime discussion with JAY-Z that was uploaded on Instagram by Khaled last year “Alright, I’m just here tweaking lines and s**t,” he told he told his former rival over the call. “I’m in here, curating, rewriting four bars here and there … Oh, no no no. I gotta come back! [Laughs] Yo bro, this is one. The queen at the end, the harmonies, that gave me chills … this is definitely one for the books.”
