Gaptoof and Mushkilla combine on new single ‘Stay Up’.

The collaboration is out now on the always-essential Soft Boy Records, and the Irish-rooted collective deliver the goods once more. A soulful roller, ‘Stay Up’ owes a debt to the glories of the simple Instagram DM, and pivots between an experimental producer and one of the best MCs in the game.

Bristol wordsmith Mushkilla caught attention with his million-streaming track ‘Jesse James’, a superb piece of left-field hip-hop. London based, Irish born producer Gaptoof was enraptured by the release, and dropped him a line over DM.

The pair sent across some ideas, and once a twisted beat got stuck in place, ‘Stay Up’ began to take place. Smoky sonics and expert word play, it’s a superb link-up, with the two artists bringing the best out of one another.

Speaking on the collaboration, Gaptoof says…

“I was a fan of MushKilla for a long time before I finally reached out to him and was always impressed with his variety as an artist, I really wanted to give him something hip hop mid tempo, the space I usually occupy, and see what he could do. My favourite rap is always the clever one-liners and cheeky punchlines and I feel like Mushkilla is the best doing that in the UK right now.”
