EP REVIEW: Cruzados - Land of the Endless Sun EP

Earlier within the 12 months Cruzados hit Europe once more, taking up dates in France, Belgium,  Spain, Germany and Austria. The 12 months earlier noticed the discharge of ‘Reside from Marseille’ is a full-length dwell album captured on the earlier years tour of Europe and containing performances of Cruzados classics and a few new tunes from 2022-2023. It’s been an enormous few years they usually’re again already with a Rocking new EP ‘Land of the Endless Sun’ that sports activities cowl artwork harking back to the 60’s Sci-Fi TV Present ‘Land of the Giants’.

The Cruzados origins are effectively documented in fact and their debut hit as way back as 1985, it’s an awesome album too, sadly like so many nice bands of the period even nots from large names like John Fogerty and Stevie Nicks and excursions with Joe Cocker, INXS and Fleetwood Mac couldn’t propel them into the large time and by the 90’s they cut up. The reformed band with Tony Marsico on the helm may not be doing it for fame however with the addition of Ron Younger (Little Caesar) on vocals they’re once more punching above their weight. It’s like a who’s who of nice musicians that the rest of the band has performed with within the intervening years.

This was all the time Tony’s band although, and stylistically its a beautiful mash of  rock and blues with a Latin flavour. The songs for that reformation album could have been there earlier than the remainder of the band got here collectively , however his time round it’s all co-written apart from the title monitor. So we get a brand new 6 monitor EP that very a lot picks up the place that fantastic final album left off. It’s not a lot as case of evolution as the remainder of the band simply utterly getting it as there isn’t a stylistic shift simply extra nice music.

Opening with the rocker ‘Lifeless Inside’ there’s a 60’s UK Blues Rock revival really feel and West Coast airiness that basically hits the spot. It’s an awesome tune to open with and has loads of fireplace with swelling keys and a beautiful lyric. Title monitor ‘Land of the Endless Sun’ provides a beautiful bluesy stagger, a hypnotic guitar patten holds all of it collectively and Ron going deep south together with his vocal actually cuts it. All of it builds to an awesome solo that just about stops, however rolls on by way of. It’s smoking!

The foot is off the pedal for ‘Golden Little one’ a sun-licked, relatively laid again quantity that sees issues taken right down to a whisper like a scene slowly receding within the rearview it takes you down one other less- travelled freeway and gathers extra moss with every roll. Conversely ‘A Little Extra Time’ is just like the getaway from fuel station theft, it’s rock and roll, southern boogie truck cease blues with a punky edge within the guitar that cuts properly throughout the background harmonies.

We’re all ZZ Prime meets Creedence for ‘Queen of the Quake’ a beguiling shuffle that basically hits the spot; and nearer ‘Johnny Pay to Play’ rounds out the EP with a story of the truth of Rock and Roll and the duality of life on the Sunset Strip again within the day. It’s all fiery guitars and inescapable Chuck Berry as we shut and it’s rattling superb stuff. An effective way to shut what’s as superb an EP as you’ll hear all 12 months. What a band!
