Damon Albarn On Blur, Iceland, And Why "Labour's F*cked It" | News

Damon Albarn has revealed he is “not opposed” to getting back out on the road with Blur.

The songwriter sat down with The Sunday Times over the weekend, to discuss his incoming album ‘The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows’.

A project inspired by Iceland – a country he first visited in 1997 – it leans on modern classical, and shows another side to his artistry.

In the interview, Damon Albarn revealed that he became an Icelandic citizen this year, having spent more than two decades visiting the country.

Reflecting on the darkness covering the UK right now, he offered: “Labour’s fucked it. It’s Conservatives for the rest of our lives…”

Naturally, Damon Albarn was asked about the prospect of more live shows from Blur, or perhaps even some new material.

The songwriter said he is “not opposed” to the idea – Alex James is a farmer, Dave Rowntree is a Labour councillor, while Graham Coxon has worked on everything from The End Of The F*cking World to the new Duran Duran album.

Damon Albarn reflected: “It’s funny. I’m not opposed to [more Blur] — it’s just getting round to it. I love playing those songs. It would be light relief — compared to what I do now — to play something upbeat and funny.”

‘The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows’ on November 12th.
