20 Years Ago Today, Eminem's "8 Mile" Film Was Released In Theaters

Eminem’s “8 Mile” film turns 20.

On this day [Nov. 8] in 2002, Eminem featured rap film “8 Mile” released in theatres. The Curtis Hanson-directed movie was a critical and box office success as it opened at No. 1 in the US with $51.3 million grossed in its opening weekend and it achieved a grand total of $242.9 million worldwide. The film additionally featured the Late Brittany Murphy, Mekhi Phifer, Kim Basinger and more.

The album’s soundtrack was likewise a financial triumph, earning the Recording Industry Association of America’s quadruple platinum certification (RIAA). The film received multiple nominations and awards, including an Academy Award for Best Original Song for Eminem, Luis Resto, and Jeff Bass for “Lose Yourself” at the 75th Academy Awards. Several media chose 8 Mile as one of the greatest films of 2002.

Just recently, the rapper released a deluxe version of the Soundtrack to celebrate the 20th anniversary which arrived with 32 tracks, featuring demos and instrumentals. The original version of the soundtrack had 16 tracks, with music from Eminem, 50 Cent, Obie Trice, D12, Jay-Z, Xzibit, Nas, Rakim, Gang Starr and more.
